Pro-Abortion Groups Spend $6 Million to Back Pro-Abortion Kay Hagan

The abortion industry knows there is a key Senate election on the line and Planned Parenthood and company are prepared to spend as much as it takes to ensure Harry Reid controls the Senate. If he stays in place, there is a guarantee that bills to ban late-term abortions after 20 weeks and to stop taxpayer funding of abortions or de-fund Planned Parenthood will never make it out of Congress.

According to a new Politico report, Planned Parenthood and the pro-abortion group Emily’s List are dumping $6 million into the race to support pro-abortion North Carolina Senate candidate Kay Hagan.

“Kay Hagan supports painful, late-term abortions. She’s too extreme for North Carolina,” says a recent ad from SBA List against the incumbent, whom the group has named as a top target for defeat.

Hagan is punching back. She won in 2008 with a lot of support from women voters, and her campaign has attacked Tillis over abortion restrictions passed while he was the state’s House speaker. She’s slammed a 2013 state law requiring abortion clinics to follow the same rules as ambulatory centers, banning certain abortions and requiring doctors to be present through an entire abortion procedure.

“Speaker Tillis has used his position in the General Assembly to overreach on countless women’s health issues, even defunding preventive care programs,” Hagan campaign spokeswoman Sadie Weiner said recently.

Pro-abortion rights groups Planned Parenthood and EMILY’s List say they’ll together dump more than $6 million into Hagan’s race, but so far their ads aren’t actually talking about abortion. One ad from EMILY’s List featured a pregnant woman complaining about cuts to education.

Women Speak Out PAC, a partner of the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List, is pushing back with ads letting Tar Heel state voters know Hagan is pro-abortion.
“Senator Kay Hagan is so out of step on abortion that she even refuses to protect unborn children after five months of pregnancy. North Carolinians disagree with her on this,” said Women Speak Out PAC President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Polls show that the majority of Americans – and women in higher numbers than men – support legislation to protect women and their children from dangerous late abortions. Abortion industry leader Planned Parenthood has pledged $3 million to the Hagan campaign so far, clearly appreciative of her ardent advocacy of its wildly unpopular positions. From now until Election Day, Women Speak Out PAC will communicate Senator Hagan’s extreme position to North Carolina voters.”

Women Speak Out PAC has teamed with the North Carolina Values Coalition to open five field offices across the state to educate voters about Hagan’s extreme stance on abortion through door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and other grassroots activities.

In November Senator Hagan’s spokeswoman confirmed to Raleigh News & Observer that she opposes the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The legislation, introduced by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), has 40 cosponsors, including Senator Richard Burr. A poll by Quinnipiac showed that 60 percent of women support a 20-week limit, 10 points higher than suppose among men.
